DEFINITION: The interior courtesy lights stay on with all of the doors closed, the instrument panel (IP) switch off, the interior lamps override switch in the ON position (interior lights enabled), and none of the interior lighting modes activated. However, the inadvertent load (battery rundown) protection turns off the interior courtesy lights after 10 minutes.

Did you perform the Lighting Systems Diagnostic System Check?

Perform the BCM Input/Output test. Refer to On-Board Diagnostic Features in Body Control Systems.

NOTE: While the BCM is performing the Input/Output test, the chime sounds when any of the BCM inputs is activated. Example: The chime sounds when any Door is opened.

Does the BCM enter the Input/Output test?

Cycle the IP dimmer switch from the DOME position to the OFF position and back to the DOME position in order to move to test 3.

Do all of the interior lights turn off for a second when the BCM performs the Input/Output test 3?

  1. Close all of the vehicle doors.
  2. Open and close the left front and the right front doors, one door at a time.
  3. Open and close the left sliding door (if equipped) and the right sliding door, one door at a time.
  4. Open and close the rear liftgate door.

Does the chime sound when each vehicle door opens?

  1. Go to Step 10 if the vehicle is not equipped with the content theft deterrent (RPO UA6).
  2. Insert the key into the driver door lock.
  3. Turn the key until the key stops (as in trying to unlock the door) while listening for the chime.
  4. Remove the key from the driver door lock.
  5. Repeat this test for the passenger door lock.

Does the chime sound when the key is turned?

Test the Interior Lights On Request Input circuit and the Headlamp and IP lamp Dimmer Switch for an open or short to ground. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Go to Step 11

  1. Disconnect the BCM connector C1.
  2. Verify that all of the roof rail reading lamps are turned off.
  3. Verify that the sunshade mirror covers are closed.
  4. Test the Courtesy Lights Control Output circuit for a short to ground.

Test the appropriate Door Ajar Input circuit and switch for a short to ground. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs in wiring systems.

Test the appropriate Key Cylinder Door Unlock Input circuit and switch for a short to ground. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs in wiring systems.

  1. Inspect the BCM connectors for faulty terminal contact. Refer to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections or Connector Repairs in Wiring Systems.
  2. If the BCM connectors are OK, replace the BCM. Refer to Body Control Module Replacement in Body Control Systems.

Is the repair complete?

Go to Step 11

  1. Turn the ignition switch to the LOCK position.
  2. Reinstall the connectors/components that were removed.
  3. Operate the system in order to verify the repair.
