Important:
• | If replacing a theft deterrent controller module with an GM Service
Parts Operation (SPO) Replacement Part, the module will learn keys immediately.
The existing PCM however, must learn the new fuel continue password when
the theft deterrent controller module is replaced. |
• | If replacing a PCM with a GM Service Parts Operation (SPO) Replacement
Part, after programming, these modules will learn the incoming fuel continue
password immediately upon receipt of a password message. Once a password
message is received, and a password is learned, a learn procedure must
be performed to change this password again. A PCM which has been previously
installed in another vehicle will have learned the other vehicles fuel
continue password and will require a Learn procedure after programming
to learn the current vehicle's password. |
• | When performing the 10 Minute or the 30 Minute Re-Learn
Procedures, all previously learned keys will be erased from the VTD module's
memory. |
• | Additional keys may be learned immediately after the 10 Minute
or 30 Minute Re-Learn Procedure by inserting the additional key to
be learned and turning the ignition to RUN within 10 seconds of removing
the previously learned key. |
10 Minute Re-Learn Procedure (Export and Domestic vehicles)
Use this procedure after replacing:
• | The keys/lock cylinders |
• | The theft deterrent controller module |
• | The PCM (if necessary , see Important above) |
Tools Required
• | Techline Terminal with current Service Programing System (SPS)
software |
- Connect the Tech 2 Diagnostic tool.
- Select Request Information under Service Programing.
- Disconnect the Tech 2 from the vehicle and connect it to a Techline
Terminal.
- On the Techline Terminal, select Theft Module Re-Learn under Service
Programming.
- Disconnect the Tech 2 from the Techline Terminal and re-connect
it to the vehicle.
- Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF, using a Master Pass
Key III® Key (Black).
- Select VTD Re-Learn under Service Programming.
- At this point the Tech 2 must remain connected for the duration
of the 10 minute Re-Learn period.
- Observe the Security indicator on the reconfigurable display,
after approximately 10 minutes the indicator will turn off. (the vehicle
is now ready to re-learn the key information and/or passwords on the next
ignition switch transition from OFF to CRANK)
- Turn OFF the ignition and wait 5 seconds.
- Start the vehicle (the scan tool has now learned the key and
password information).
- With the scan tool, clear any DTCs
30 Minute Re-Learn Procedure (Domestic Vehicles Only)
Use this procedure after replacing:
• | The keys/lock cylinders |
• | The theft deterrent controller module |
• | The PCM (if necessary, see important above) |
- Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF using a Master Pass
Key III® Key (Black).
- Observe the Security indicator on the reconfigurable display,
after approximately 10 minutes the indicator will turn off.
- Turn OFF the ignition, and wait 5 seconds.
- Repeat steps 1 through 3 two more times for a total of 3 cycles
or 30 minutes.
Important: The vehicle learns the key information and/or passwords on the ignition
switch transition from OFF to CRANK. You must turn the ignition OFF before
attempting to start the vehicle.
- Start the vehicle (the vehicle has now learned the key and password
information).
- With a scan tool, clear any DTCs.
