The driver information center (DIC) shows information about the following items:

    • The vehicle
    • The vehicle's surroundings

The English/metric button (E/M) allows you to change the display to a metric or an English reading at any time. The mode button (MODE) allows you to cycle through the following 3 modes of operation:

    • OFF
    • Compass/Temperature Mode
    • Trip Calculator Mode

When the mode in the OFF position, no driver information is displayed.

Compass/Temperature Mode

    • The Compass/Temperature mode displays the following readings:
       - One of 8 compass readings
       - The outside temperature
    • If the outside temperature is below 3°C (38°F), the temperature reading will toggle between displaying the outside temperature and the word ICE for 2 minutes.
    • The Automatic Compass Calibration is self-calibrating. This eliminates the need to manually set the compass. The calibration process may not be complete when the vehicle is new. In these cases, the calibration symbol C will be displayed where the compass reading is normally displayed. In order to calibrate a compass, perform the following steps:
        1. Transport the vehicle to an area free from large metal objects.
        2. Drive the vehicle in 3 consecutive 360° turns.

The calibration symbol will turn off and the compass reading will be displayed.

    • If the compass appears erratic and the calibration symbol does not appear, you must manually put the compass into the calibration mode. In order to put the compass into the calibration mode, perform the following steps:
        1. Turn the ignition ON.
        2. Cycle the driver information center (DIC) to the Compass/Temperature mode.
        3. Press both the E/M and the MODE buttons for at least 10 seconds until the calibration symbol appears.
        4. Release both buttons once the calibration symbol appears.
        5. Complete 3 360 degree turns in an area free from large metal objects.

The calibration symbol will turn off and the compass reading will be displayed.

    • Compass variance is the difference between magnetic north and geographic north. In some areas of the country, the difference is great enough to cause the compass to give false readings. If this occurs, the compass variance must be set. In order to set the compass variance, perform the following steps:
        1. Turn the ignition ON.
        2. Cycle the driver information center (DIC) to the Compass/Temperature mode.
        3. Press both the E/M and the MODE buttons for approximately 5 seconds.

The last entered variance zone number will be displayed.

        4. Press the E/M button until the proper variance number is showing.
        5. Press the MODE button in order to set the new variance zone and resume normal operation.

The display will show all the display segments for a 1/2 second in order to acknowledge the change in zone number.

Trip Calculator

    • In the trip calculator mode, pressing the MODE button cycles through the 5 displays. Press the mode button after the last trip calculator display in order to return the driver information center (DIC) to the off mode.
       - Average Fuel Economy (AVG ECON) shows the average fuel economy since the last reset.
       - Instantaneous Fuel Economy (INST ECON) shows the fuel economy for the most recent second of driving.
       - Trip Range (RANGE) shows the estimated distance that may be traveled with the remaining fuel. The fuel economy used to calculate range is based on the last few hours of driving.
       - Trip Fuel Used (FUEL USED) shows the accumulated fuel used since the last reset.
       - Average Speed (AVG SPEED) shows the average speed since the last reset.
    • In order to reset the trip calculator, Press and hold the MODE and the E/M buttons for at least 2 seconds.
The reset is acknowledged with the display showing all segments on for a period of a 1/2 second. A reset may only be done in the following displays:
      • AVG ECON
      • FUEL USED
      • AVG SPEED
    • Resetting affects all 3 displays regardless of what display you are in.
