Instrument Panel (IP) Top Pad Hazy, Chalky, or Discolored (Clean Using Terry Cloth and Cleaner)

Some customers may comment that the IP top pad is hazy, chalky, or discolored and that cleaning with soap and water does not eliminate this condition.

This condition may be due to the migration of a material present (in small amounts) in the skin of the IP top pad to the surface. It is most readily apparent on the ebony skin, but may also be visible on the gray and neutral skins.

Do NOT replace the instrument panel top pad.

Clean the IP top pad using the following procedure:

1. Obtain a dark colored terry cloth towel for dark colored IPs (gray or ebony) or a light colored terry cloth towel for light colored IPs (neutral). (Similar colored towels will not show leftover fibers or lint.)

Notice: Do NOT spray the cleaner directly onto the top pad. Some areas close to the top pad are painted with soft touch paint, and the cleaner will damage the soft touch paint if overspray comes into contact with these areas.

2. Spray the towel liberally with *Formula 409® All Purpose Cleaner** (in Canada, use *TILEX® Total Bathroom Cleaner as an alternative). Perform this step outside the vehicle in a well-ventilated area.
3. Wipe the entire IP top pad with the cloth, taking care to avoid other parts of the interior trim.
4. Verify that condition has been eliminated.
