Removal Procedure

  1. Remove the tires and wheels. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation in Tires and Wheels.
  2. Remove the oil level indicator.
  3. Remove the engine splash shields. Refer to Engine Splash Shield Replacement in Body Front End.
  4. Drain the engine of oil.
  5. Important: In the following service procedure, DO NOT remove the brake calipers. Relocate them to the side and properly support them.

  6. Remove the brake calipers and relocate to the side. Refer to Front Brake Caliper Replacement in Disc Brakes.

  8. Remove the retaining bolts for the struts.

  9. Object Number: 378919  Size: SH

    Important: In the following service procedure, DO NOT remove the steering rack from the vehicle. Relocate the steering rack and support the steering rack.

  10. Remove the steering rack from the frame. Refer to Steering Gear Replacement in Power Steering System.
  11. Remove the tie rods from the steering knuckle. Refer to Rack and Pinion Outer Tie Rod End Replacement in Power Steering System.
  12. Remove the power steering cooler lines from the retainers on the frame.
  13. Remove the transmission cooler lines from the retainers on the frame.

  15. Remove the battery cable wiring harness from the retainers on the frame.

  17. Disconnect the speed sensor electrical connectors.

  19. Remove the speed sensor wiring harness from the retainers on the frame.

  20. Object Number: 1401475  Size: SH
  21. Install the engine support fixture. Refer to Engine Support Fixture .

  22. Object Number: 96002  Size: SH
  23. Remove the right engine mount nuts.
  24. Remove the transmission mount bolts.
  25. Remove the engine mount struts. Refer to the following procedures:
  26. •  Engine Mount Strut Replacement - Left Side
    •  Engine Mount Strut Replacement - Right Side

  27. Remove the frame mounting bolts. Front shown, rear similar.
  28. Important: Before lowering the frame, make sure that all transmission lines, power steering lines, and electrical harness have been disconnected and relocated to ensure that nothing will be damaged while lowering the frame.

    Lower the frame enough to remove the oil pan assembly.

  29. Lower the frame. Refer to Frame Replacement .
  30. Disconnect the oil level senor electrical connector.

  32. Remove the oil pan bolts.

  33. Object Number: 1412169  Size: SH
  34. Using the pry points on the oil pan, separate the oil pan from the engine block.

  35. Object Number: 1581040  Size: SH
  36. Remove the oil pan from the vehicle.
  37. Disassemble the oil pan. Refer to Oil Pan Disassemble .

Installation Procedure

  1. Assemble the oil pan. Refer to Oil Pan Assemble .

  3. Install the oil pan. Refer to Oil Pan Installation .
  4. Connect the oil level senor electrical connector.
  5. Raise the frame. Refer to Frame Replacement .

  6. Object Number: 630964  Size: SH
  7. Install the transmission mount bolts. Refer to Transmission Mount Replacement - Left Side .
  8. Install the engine mount struts. Refer to the following procedures:
  9. •  Engine Mount Strut Replacement - Left Side
    •  Engine Mount Strut Replacement - Right Side

  10. Install the right engine mount nuts. Refer to Engine Mount Inspection .

  11. Object Number: 1401475  Size: SH
  12. Remove the engine support fixture. Refer to Engine Support Fixture .

  13. Object Number: 1581006  Size: SH
  14. Install the battery cable wiring harness in the retainers on the frame.

  15. Object Number: 1209233  Size: SH
  16. Install the speed sensor wiring harness in the retainers on the frame.

  17. Object Number: 1580150  Size: SH
  18. Connect the speed sensor electrical connectors.
  19. Install the transmission cooler lines in the retainers on the frame.
  20. Install the power steering lines in the retainers on the frame.

  21. Object Number: 378919  Size: SH
  22. Install the steering rack on the frame. Refer to Steering Gear Replacement in Power Steering System.
  23. Install the tie rods in the steering knuckle. Refer to Rack and Pinion Outer Tie Rod End Replacement in Power Steering System.

  24. Object Number: 1209238  Size: SH
  25. Install the retaining bolts for the struts. Refer to Strut Assembly Replacement in Front Suspension.
  26. Install the brakes calipers. Refer to Front Brake Caliper Replacement in Disc Brakes.
  27. Install the engine splash shields. Refer to Engine Splash Shield Replacement in Body Front End.
  28. Install the oil level indicate.
  29. Install the tires and wheels. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation in Tires and Wheels.
  30. Fill the engine with oil. Refer to Engine Oil and Oil Filter Replacement .
