Subject: | Battery Draw Isolated to IPC or BCM Caused by EBCM |
Models: | 2005-2007 Buick LaCrosse |
2004-2007 Pontiac Grand Prix |
The following diagnosis might be helpful if the vehicle exhibits the symptom(s) described in this PI.
Battery draw which typically is between 400mA to 1500mA, but can be lower or higher. In most cases if the IPC and/or the BCM fuses are removed the draw will go away.
It has been found and verified that the EBCM can cause this concern. It is suspected that the EBCM is sending out a message on the data line that is keeping the IPC and/or the BCM awake.
If you have a LaCrosse, Allure, or Grand Prix with a battery draw that can be duplicated and the draw goes away with the IPC and/or the BCM fuses removed, unplug the EBCM and evaluate the concern. If the draw goes away with the EBCM unplugged it will be necessary to replace the EBCM. If the draw is still present continue with SI diagnostics.
Please follow this diagnostic or repair process thoroughly and complete each step. If the condition exhibited is resolved without completing every step, the remaining steps do not need to be performed.
