1. Driver Information Center (DIC) Switch Malfunction

Circuit/System Description

The driver information center (DIC) switch is controlled by the IPC. Power and ground is provided to the DIC from the instrument panel cluster. The IPC also provides power to the DIC switch and the DIC switch signal circuit is pulled up to battery voltage in the IPC. The DIC switch input to the DIC is grounded when a switch is activated. The IPC monitors the DIC switch signal circuit to determine the DIC switch inputs.

Circuit/System Testing

  1. Ignition OFF, disconnect the harness connector at the DIC.
  2. Ignition OFF, test for less than 1 ohm between the DIC ground circuit terminal 4 and ground.
  3. If greater than the specified range, test the ground circuit for an open/high resistance.
  4. Ignition ON, verify that all of the scan tool DIC Switch parameters are Inactive or Off.
  5. If any are not the specified value, test the signal circuit listed below for a short to ground. If the circuits test normal, replace the IPC.
    • DIC Fuel Switch Signal Terminal 9
    • DIC Select Switch Signal Terminal 8
    • DIC Set/Reset Switch Signal Terminal 7
    • DIC Odometer Switch Signal Terminal 5
    • DIC Gage Switch Signal Terminal 6
    • DIC Switch Signal Terminal 9 (Base DIC)
  6. Ignition ON, install a 3-amp fused jumper wire between the signal circuits listed below and the ground circuit terminal 4. Verify all of the scan tool DIC switch parameters are Active or On.
  7. • DIC Fuel Switch Signal Terminal 9
    • DIC Select Switch Signal Terminal 8
    • DIC Set/Reset Switch Signal Terminal 7
    • DIC Odometer Switch Signal Terminal 5
    • DIC Gage Switch Signal Terminal 6
    • DIC Switch Signal Terminal 9 (Base DIC)
If any are not the specified value, test the signal circuit for a short to voltage or an open/high resistance. If the circuits test normal, replace the IPC.
  8. If all circuits test normal, test or replace the DIC switch.
