FALSE CODE 53 MAY BE SET DEFECTIVE PROM

Models Affected: 1984 Regals, Lesabres, Electras, with 4.1L (VIN Code 4) V-6 Engines

In some vehicles a false code 53 may be set repeatedly on the above vehicles when no system defects exist. If code 53 is stored in the ECM Memory, use trouble code 53 chart to determine the condition. If no failure is found or the condition no longer exists, a new PROM released for service, part number 1227001 should be installed per the procedures in the Chassis Service Manual.
