The following revised section of the 1984 Owner's Manual pertains to the availability of Product Service Publications (PSP's). The revision explains how consumers may obtain PSP Indexes, PSP's or Subscriptions to all PSP's.
Information on how to obtain Production Service Publications, Subscriptions, Indexes and Summaries as described below is applicable only in the fifty states (and the District of Columbia).
Buick regularly sends its dealers useful service bulletins about Buick products. Buick monitors product performance in the field. We then prepare bulletins for servicing our products better. Now, you can get these bulletins, too.
Bulletins cover various subjects. Some pertain to the proper use and care of your car. Some describe costly repairs. Others describe inexpensive repairs which, if done timely, with the latest parts, may avoid future costly repairs. Some bulletins tell a mechanic how to repair a new or unexpected condition. Others describe a quicker way to fix your car. They can help a mechanic service your car better.
Most bulletins apply to conditions affecting a small number of cars. Your Buick dealer or a qualified mechanic may have to determine if a specific bulletin applies to your car.
You can subscribe to all Buick bulletins. This way you'll get them as they come out. You can wait a while and get an index to the bulletins. The index summarizes some of the more important bulletins. You can also get individual bulletins. However, you'll need the index to identify them.
You can subscribe to all Buick Product Service Publications (PSP's). This will include bulletins for all of the cars sold by Buick and will not be limited to the PSP's applicable to any particular model. When you buy a subscription, you will receive the PSP's in periodic mailings, shortly after they come out. A subscription costs $76.50 without the binder and $89.00 with the binder and entitles you to all the PSP's published by Buick during the model year. You can purchase a subscription by sending a check or money order to Service Publications, P.O. Box 1901, Flint, MI 48501 along with the order form located on Page #4. You may get additional subscription ordering forms by calling the toll-free number listed below, or you can find them at participating dealerships.
INDIVIDUAL PSP's ----------------- If you don't want to buy all the PSP's issued by Buick for all car models in the model year, you can buy individual PSP's, such as those which may pertain to a particular model. To do this, you will first need to see our index of PSP's. It provides a variety of information. Here's what you'll find in the index and how you can get one:
WHAT YOU'LL FIND IN THE INDEX: ------------------------------- A list of all PSP's published by Buick in a model year (1982 or later). PSP's covering all models of Buick cars are listed in the same index.
Ordering information so you can buy the specific PSP's you may want.
Price information for the PSP's you may want to buy.
Easy-to-understand summaries of some of the more important PSP's. These summaries highlight some of the PSP's which describe costly repairs or which are designed to prevent costly repairs, or which contain owner use and care information.
Indexes are published quarterly each model year, and each quarterly issue is updated cumulatively for that model year. Most of the PSP's which could potentially apply to the most recent Buick models will be listed in the last quarterly publicatim for that model year. This means you may want to wait until the end of the model year before ordering an index, if you are interested in buying PSP's pertaining to a current model year car.
Some PSP's pertaining to a particular model year car may be published in later years, and these would be listed in the later year's index. When you order an index for a model year that is not over yet, we'll send you the most recently published quarterly issue. You can specify an index for an earlier model year, but not before 1982. Cut out the ordering form, fill it out, and mail it in. We will then see to it that an index is mailed to you. There is no charge for indexes for the 1982-1985 model years.
If you want an additional ordering form for an index or a subscription, just call toll-free and we'll be happy to send you one. Automated recording equipment will take you name and mailing address. The number to call is 1-800-551-4123.
Copies of Indexes and individual PSP's are at your participating Buick dealer. You can ask to see them.
A VERY IMPORTANT REMINDER: These PSP's are intended for mechanics. They are not meant for the "do-it-yourselfer". Mechanics have the equipment, tools, safety instructions, and know-how to do a job quickly and safely.
General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
