CONDITION GENERAL MOTORS HAS DETERMINED THAT SOME 1985 NINETY-EIGHT MODELS WERE ASSEMBLED WITH THE VACUUM HOSES REVERSED AT THE VACUUM REGULATOR VALVE (VRV). THIS MAY CAUSE HARSH TRANSAXLE SHIFTS AND COULD RESULT IN ACCELERATED CLUTCH LINING WEAR. DEALER ACTION TO PREVENT THE POSSIBILITY OF THIS OCCURRING, DEALERS ARE TO INSPECT THE VACUUM HOSE CONNECTIONS AT THE VRV AND REVERSE THE HOSES IF NECESSARY ON ALL INVOLVED VEHICLES. SERVICE PROCEDURE 1. OPEN HOOD AND REMOVE AIR CLEANER. 2. INSPECT BOTH VACUUM HOSES AT THE VRV CONNECTOR. THE OUTSIDE HOSE (PASSENGER SIDE) SHOULD BE THE VACUUM SOURCE. THE INSIDE HOSE ON THE CONNECTOR SHOULD GO TO THE QUICK VACUUM RESPONSE (QVR) VALVE AND THEN TO THE TRANSAXLE VACUUM MODULATOR. REFER TO FIGURE 1 FOR PROPER HOSE ASSEMBLY. 3. IF THE ABOVE INSPECTION SHOWS THE VACUUM HOSES TO BE PROPERLY ASSEMBLED, NO FURTHER ACTION IS REQUIRED. IF THE HOSES ARE REVERSED REMOVE THE VACUUM HOSES AT THE CONNECTOR, REVERSE THEIR POSITION AND REINSTALL IN THE CONNECTOR. 4. INSTALL AIR CLEANER. 5. CLOSE HOOD.
General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
