A production change has been made to the brake master cylinder, pedal, and brake pads, to address brake pedal feel. If comments are received concerning the height of the brake pedal during braking, the following should be checked:
1. Excessive brake lining wear.
2. Rear brake, parking brake adjustment.
3. Brake fluid level.
4. Brake system bleed.
If these items are satisfactory, the following can be done to address brake pedal feel:
Install the following: (1985-86 Electra/Park Avenue; 1986 LeSabre)
1. Brake Master Cylinder, Part Number 18011049 (less proportioning valves).
2. Jumper harness, Part Number 18011052.
3. Brake Pedal, Part Number 25533603.
4. Brake pads, Part Number 12321422 (on vehicles that have not had these pads previously installed).
Install the following: (1987 Electra/Park Avenue and LeSabre)
1. Brake Padal, Part Number 25533603.
On 1988 Electra/Park Avenue and Lesabre vehicles built prior to the following VIN, install Brake Pedal Part Number as indicated:
LeSabre JH439295 Electra/Park Avenue J1619455
Use applicable labor operation numbers and labor time.
General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
