VALVE BODY CLAMPING PLATE ELIMINATED W/ 440T4 TRANS.

MODELS AFFECTED: ALL 1988 VEHICLES EQUIPPED WITH A 440-T4 (ME9) TRANSAXLE

As of October 8, 1987 (Julian Date 281), the valve body clamping plate, Item Number 85 in Figure 1, was eliminated from production of all 440-T4 transaxles. Studies indicated this part was not required for proper clamp load on the control valve assembly, spacer plate, and gaskets.

Transaxles built prior to October 8, 1987 (Julian Date 281), will not be affected if the part is left out during reassembly. The clamping plate (Service Part Number 8658297) will no longer be produced and will not be available when GMSPO stock is depleted.

General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
