CONDITION
GENERAL MOTORS HAS DETERMINED THAT A DEFECT WHICH RELATES TO MOTOR VEHICLE SAFETY MAY EXIST IN SOME 1987 AND 1988 BUICK LESABRE MODELS EQUIPPED WITH ANTI-LOCK BRAKE SYSTEM (JM4). INVOLVED VEHICLES MAY HAVE BEEN ASSEMBLED WITH LOW TORQUE OF THE BRAKE HYDRAULIC UNIT MOUNTING BOLTS. THIS CONDITION COULD CAUSE INCREASED BRAKE PEDAL TRAVEL AND/OR POOR PEDAL FEEL IF THE ATTACHMENT LOOSENS. IN ADDITION, WITH TIME, THIS CONDITION COULD LEAD TO SEPARATION OF THE BRAKE HYDRAULIC UNIT FROM ITS MOUNTING BRACKET. SEPARATION WOULD RESULT IN LOSS OF BRAKE FUNCTION AND COULD RESULT IN A VEHICLE CRASH WITHOUT PRIOR WARNING.
DEALER ACTION
TO CORRECT THIS CONDITION, DEALERS ARE TO REPLACE THE HYDRAULIC UNIT MOUNTING BOLTS ON ALL VEHICLES INVOLVED ACCORDING TO THE INSTRUCTIONS IN THE TECHNICAL PROCEDURE SECTION OF THIS BULLETIN.

General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
