TIRE PRESSURE
If an owner of a 1988 "H" car with base P205/7514 tires expresses a concern of ride harshness or lack of ride comfort due to suspension hardness, which cannot be corrected with normal service procedures; the cold tire pressure may be lowered to 210 kPa (30 psi) from the tire placard recommended 240 kPa (35 psi) pressure. The dealer is to inform the owner that 210 kPa is recommended for improved ride and is adequate to meet all applicable Motor Vehicle standards, including wear and GVMR loading. The owner's manual cautions on high speed applications still apply.
This bulletin applies only to the base P205/7514 tire which is the only tire using 240 kPa. Both the 15" and 16" tires use 210 kPa as recommended tire placard pressure.
General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
