The 1987 and 1988 Buick Electra/Park Avenues and LeSabres with touring cluster (Yazaki) may exhibit the following conditions:
1. The low fuel warning chime may not sound until the actual fuel level is below one (1) gallon.
2. The temperature gauge system operates such that the gauge pointer movement is nonlinear. Present graphics have linearly spaced graduations with temperatures given for the high and low ends of the scale. This has lead to customer misinterpretation of engine operating temperature and request to dealers for temperature gauge repairs (Figure I and Figure 2).
The condition was resolved by modifying temperature graphics in such a manner as to clearly indicate engine operating temperature.
To correct conditions 1 and 2, it will be necessary to remove the cluster and send to an AC-Delco Service Centre for an exchange unit.
General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
