HOOD VIBRATION OR FLUTTER REPAIR DESCRIBED

HOOD FLUTTER (Revised to Correct Vehicles Affected)

VEHICLES AFFECTED: 1987-88 PONTIAC BONNEVILLE ----------------- If a comment is received about Bonneville hood flutter while driving, first check for the proper adjustment of the hood latch and the two rubber outboard stops.

If the hood still flutters after proper adjustment follow the steps listed below:

1. Remove the front section retainers of the hood insulator.

2. Check the mastic spots for separation. The mastic is a gum drop like sealer that is used between the hood inner and outer panels. If the mastic is separated, scrape the old material off both panels being careful not to dent the outer hood panel.

3. Install new mastic drops using 3M hood repair kit #8105 or equivalent at the locations shown in the illustration.

4. Reinstall the hood insulator retainers.

5. Allow the mastic to cure for two hours with the hood latched only on the secondary latch. Do not drive the vehicle with the hood only on the secondary latch. General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
