1. Inspect the battery hydrometer.
2. Remove the INJECTOR Fuse 7 from the RH I/P Power Distribution Center to prevent the engine from starting.
3. Place the ignition switch in CRANK for 15 seconds.
4. Using a DMM, measure the voltage between the battery terminals.

Is the measured voltage greater than the specified value?

8 V

Go to Step 2

Using a DMM, measure the voltage between the negative battery terminal and the engine block while the ignition switch is placed in CRANK for 15 seconds.

Is the measured voltage less than the specified value?

0.5 V

Go to Step 3

Go to Step 7

Using a DMM, measure the voltage between the positive battery terminal and the starter solenoid terminal B while the ignition switch is placed in CRANK for 15 seconds.

Is the voltage less than the specified value?

0.5 V

Go to Step 4

Go to Step 8

Replace the starter motor. Refer to Starter Motor Replacement .

Is the starter motor replacement complete?

Go to Starter and Charging System Check

Perform the parasitic load test. Refer to Battery Electrical Drain/Parasitic Load Test .

Does the battery test OK?

Go to Step 6

Go to Step 9

Check the battery and starter motor terminals for corrosion or poor contact. Refer to Battery Cable . If OK, replace the starter motor. Refer to Starter Motor Replacement .

Is the repair completed?

Go to Starter and Charging System Check

1. Clean the negative battery cable connections and repeat the test.
2. If the measured voltage is still greater than the specified value, replace the negative battery cable. Refer to Battery Cable .

Is the repair complete?

0.5 V

Go to Starter and Charging System Check

1. Clean the positive battery cable connections and repeat the test.
2. If the measured voltage is still greater than the specified value, replace the positive battery cable. Refer to Battery Cable .

Is the repair complete?

0.5 V
