Removal Procedure

  1. Raise the vehicle. Support the vehicle. Refer to Vehicle Lifting and Jacking in General Information.
  2. Drain the engine oil.
  3. Remove the oil pan bolts, the oil pan and gasket. Refer to Oil Pan Replacement
  4. Remove the oil filter and seal. Refer to Automatic Transmission Fluid Filter and Seal Replacement

  5. Object Number: 97335  Size: SH
  6. Remove the accumulator attaching bolts.

  7. Object Number: 97365  Size: SH
  8. Remove the accumulator assembly.

  9. Object Number: 97336  Size: SH
  10. Remove the 2-1 manual servo piston cover bolts.

  11. Object Number: 97366  Size: SH
  12. Remove the 2-1 manual servo piston assembly and the filter.
  13. Remove the seal.
  14. Disassemble and inspect the accumulator and the 2-1 manual servo assemblies. Refer to 2-1 Manual Band Servo Disassemble

Installation Procedure

    Important: The seal must be installed as shown. If it is not installed, or is installed in the wrong location, the transmission will operate only in reverse.

  1. Install the 2-1 manual servo piston assembly seal.
  2. Install the 2-1 manual servo piston assembly and the filter.

  3. Object Number: 97336  Size: SH
  4. Install the 2-1 manual servo piston cover bolts.

  5. Object Number: 97365  Size: SH
  6. Install the accumulator assembly.

  7. Object Number: 97335  Size: SH
  8. Install the accumulator assembly attaching bolts.
  9. Tighten
    Tighten the accumulator bolts and the 2-1 manual servo bolts to 27 N·m (20 lb ft).

    Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  10. Install the new oil filter seal and the oil filter. Refer to Automatic Transmission Fluid Filter and Seal Replacement
  11. Install the oil pan gasket, the oil pan and the oil pan bolts. Refer to Oil Pan Replacement
  12. Lower the vehicle.
  13. Fill the transmission to the proper level. Refer to Automatic Transmission Fluid/Filter Changing
  14. Inspect the oil pan gasket for leaks.
