POWER STEERING PUMP NOISE (CHECK FOR AIR IN SYSTEM

SUBJECT: POWER STEERING PUMP NOISE (CHECK FOR AIR IN THE SYSTEM, BLEED SYSTEM)

MODELS: 1996-98 BUICK LESABRE

CONDITION:

SOME OWNERS MAY COMMENT ON A POWER STEERING PUMP TYPE NOISE THAT CAN BE HEARD IN THE PASSENGER COMPARTMENT WHEN TURNING.

CORRECTION:

IF A POWER STEERING NOISE IS NOTICED IN THE PASSENGER COMPARTMENT OF A LESABRE, FIRST CHECK FOR CONTACT OF THE POWER STEERING LINES/HOSES TO THE BODY CAUSING THE NOISE. IF NO CONTACT IS NOTED, THE SYSTEM MAY HAVE AIR IN THE SYSTEM CAUSING THE NOISE. IN CASES WHERE AIR HAS BEEN DETECTED IN SYSTEM, SYSTEM SHOULD BE BLED FOLLOWING APPLICABLE SERVICE MANUAL PROCEDURES IN SECTION 2B - POWER STEERING GEAR AND PUMP.

IF THERE IS A QUESTION TO "NORMAL" SOUNDS, CHECK THE CUSTOMER VEHICLE AGAINST ANOTHER CAR.
