Console Replacement Oldsmobile
Removal Procedure
- Remove the transmission control lever
handle retaining clip (1).
- Remove the transmission control lever handle (2).
- Remove the upper center trim plate. Refer to
Instrument Panel Accessory Trim Plate Replacement
.
- Remove the shifter trim plate. Refer to
Console Trim Plate Replacement
.
- Place the seats in the full forward position.
- Remove the rear fasteners (3)
from the sides of the console.
- Remove the fasteners (1) retaining the console to the lower
IP.
- Remove the fasteners (2) from inside the console at the
transmission control assembly.
- Partially lift the console and disconnect the electrical connector
at the left front.
- Remove the console.
Installation Procedure
- Partially install the console.
- Connect the electrical connector.
- Align the console to the transmission control assembly.
Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners
must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring
replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant
are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or
corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified.
These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage
the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when
installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.
- Install the fasteners (2) to
the inside of the console at the transmission control assembly.
Tighten
Tighten the fasteners to 9 N·m (80 lb in).
- Install the fasteners (1) retaining the console to the
lower IP.
Tighten
Tighten the fasteners to 9 N·m (80 lb in).
- Install the rear fasteners (3) to the sides of the console.
Tighten
Tighten the fasteners to 9 N·m (80 lb in).
- Return the seats to the original position.
- Install the shifter trim plate. Refer to
Console Trim Plate Replacement
.
- Install the upper center trim plate. Refer to
Instrument Panel Accessory Trim Plate Replacement
.
- Install the transmission control lever
handle (2).
- Install the transmission control lever handle retainer (1).
Console Replacement Pontiac
Removal Procedure
- Remove the transmission
control lever handle retainer.
- Remove the transmission control lever handle.
- Remove the center trim plate. Refer to
Console Trim Plate Replacement
.
- Remove the front floor console bolt access hole cover. Refer to
Front Floor Console Trim Plate Replacement
.
- Remove the fasteners (2)
retaining the rear of the console.
- Remove the fasteners (1, 2)
retaining the front of the console.
- Remove the retainer from
the front of the console.
- Lift up on the rear of the console.
Disconnect the electrical connector.
- Carefully remove the console.
Installation Procedure
- Partially install the lower console.
- Connect the electrical connector.
- Align the console.
- Install the retainer to
the front of the console.

to the front of the console.
Tighten
Tighten the fasteners to 9 N·m (80 lb in).
- Install the lower console
fasteners (2) to the rear floor studs.
Tighten
Tighten the fasteners to 9 N·m (80 lb in).
- Install the front floor console bolt access hole cover. Refer
to
Front Floor Console Trim Plate Replacement
.
- Install the center trim plate. Refer to
Console Trim Plate Replacement
.
- Install the transmission control lever handle.
- Install the transmission control lever handle retainer.
