The theft deterrent system on this vehicle consists of
the following two separate systems:
• | The Personal Automotive Security System (PASS-Key® II) |
• | The Content Theft Deterrent (CTD) System |
These systems are described and diagnosed separately within this section.
The PASS-Key® II is designed to help prevent vehicle
theft. The PASS-Key® II disables the engine unless the driver uses a key
with a specific electrical resistance in the ignition switch. The system
consists of the following components:
• | The steering column (ignition) lock cylinder |
• | The instrument cluster (SECURITY indicator) |
• | The PASS-Key® II theft deterrent module |
• | The Park/Neutral Position (PNP) switch |
• | The theft deterrent relay |
• | The powertrain control module (PCM) |
The Content Theft Deterrent (CTD) system is designed to provide a warning
in the event of a forced entry. The attempted forced entry may come through
the doors. When a forced entry is attempted, the alarm warning system
activates. The warning system causes the following actions to occur:
• | The horns sound intermittently. |
• | The exterior lights flash in unison for approximately three minutes. |
The CTD system consists of the following components:
• | The door lock actuator switches |
• | The door lock cylinder switches |
• | The door tamper switches (Buick) |
• | The instrument cluster (SECURITY indicator) |
• | The lamp control module (LCM) |
• | The rear compartment lid tamper switch |
• | The remote function actuator (RFA) module |
The yellow SECURITY indicator in the instrument cluster is controlled
by both the following systems:
• | In the PASS-Key® II system, the theft deterrent module controls
the indicator only when the ignition switch is in RUN or START. |
• | In the CTD system, the remote function actuator (RFA) module controls
the indicator only when the ignition switch is OFF. |
If the engine cranks but does not start, the PASS-Key® II system
is not causing the problem. The content theft deterrent system does not affect
the engine starting.
