Adjustment Procedure

  1. Adjust the door fore-aft or up-down as follows:
  2. 1.1. Ream the stud holes in the pillar side of the hinges with the door and the hinges removed from the vehicle.
    1.2. Reinstall the hinges to the pillar and the door.

    Leave the nuts on the pillar side of the hinge loose.

    1.3. Reposition the door as needed.

    Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  3. Adjust the door in and out by loosening the door mounting fasteners and repositioning the door as needed.
  4. Tighten
    Tighten the nuts to 47 N·m (35 lb ft).

Removal Procedure

  1. Mark the location of the upper and lower door hinges (Oldsmobile).
  2. Caution: Unless directed otherwise, the ignition and start switch must be in the OFF or LOCK position, and all electrical loads must be OFF before servicing any electrical component. Disconnect the negative battery cable to prevent an electrical spark should a tool or equipment come in contact with an exposed electrical terminal. Failure to follow these precautions may result in personal injury and/or damage to the vehicle or its components.

  3. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  4. Remove the trim panel. Refer to the following procedures:
  5. •  Front Side Door Trim Panel Replacement
    •  Rear Side Door Trim Panel Replacement
  6. Remove the water deflector. Refer to Door Water Deflector Replacement .

  8. Disconnect all of the electrical connections (2) from the door electrical components.
  9. Remove the rubber conduit from the door.

  10. Object Number: 441822  Size: SH
  11. Remove the wire harness (2) from the door.
  12. Support the door and remove the door mounted nuts.
  13. Remove the door with the aid of an assistant.

Installation Procedure

  1. Install the door to the body with the aid of an assistant.
  2. Inspect the door for proper alignment of the door to the body and the lock-to-striker engagement.
  3. Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  4. Adjust the door as needed by loosening the door mounting fasteners and positioning the door to the desired location.
  5. Tighten
    Tighten the nuts to 47 N·m (35 lb ft).

  6. Install the wire harness to the door.
  7. Install the rubber conduit to the door.

  8. Object Number: 470124  Size: SH
  9. Connect all of the electrical connections (2) to the door electrical components.
  10. Install the water deflector. Refer to Door Water Deflector Replacement .
  11. Install the trim panel. Refer to the following procedures:
  12. •  Front Side Door Trim Panel Replacement
    •  Rear Side Door Trim Panel Replacement
  13. Connect the negative battery cable.
