Makes 🢒 Buick 🢒 2000 🢒 LeSabre 🢒 Engine 🢒 Engine Mechanical - 3.8L 🢒 Oil Pan Replacement

Removal Procedure
  1. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle.
  2. Drain the engine oil. Refer to Engine Oil and Oil Filter Replacement.
  3. Remove the torque converter cover. Refer to Torque Converter Cover Replacement in Automatic Transaxle-4T65-E.

    4. Notice: Remove the oil level sensor, located in the oil pan, before the oil pan is removed. The sensor may be damaged if the oil pan is removed first.

  4. Remove the oil level switch. Refer to Engine Oil Level Indicator Switch Replacement.
  5. Remove the torque axis mount bracket bolts.

  6. Remove the oil pan bolts.
  7. Remove the oil pan.
  8. Remove the oil pan gasket.
  9. Clean the oil pan and cylinder block mating surfaces.

Installation Procedure

    Object Number: 1794843 Size: SH
  1. Apply a continuous bead 3.0 mm (0.19 in) thick in diameter of RTV GM P/N 12378521 (Canadian P/N 88901148), or equivalent on the engine block in the pattern shown above.

    2. Object Number: 1794845 Size: SH
  2. Apply an additional drop of RTV GM P/N 12378521 (Canadian P/N 88901148), or equivalent to all four corners of the block where the front and rear covers meet (1).

    3. Object Number: 638517 Size: SH
  3. Install the oil pan.
  4. Clean the oil pan bolts.
  5. Apply one drop of GM P/N 12345382, GM P/N Canada 10953489 to each bolt.

    6. Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in the Preface section.

    Important: Do not over tighten the oil pan bolts or damage to the pan could occur.

  6. Install the oil pan bolts.

    7. Tighten
    Tighten the oil pan bolts to 14 N·m (124 lb in).

  7. Install torque axis mount bracket bolts.
  8. Install the torque converter cover. Refer to Torque Converter Cover Replacement in Automatic Transaxle-4T65-E..

  9. Install the oil level switch. Refer to Engine Oil Level Indicator Switch Replacement.
  10. Lower the vehicle.
  11. Refill the engine oil. Refer to Engine Oil and Oil Filter Replacement.
