Removal Procedure

  1. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle in General Information.
  2. Remove the steering gear heatshield.
  3. Install a drain pan under the vehicle in order to catch power steering fluid.

  4. Object Number: 254763  Size: SH
  5. Remove the power steering hose retainer from the engine frame at gear.
  6. Remove the power steering hose from the steering gear.
  7. Drain the power steering fluid.

  8. Object Number: 183669  Size: SH
  9. Disconnect the power steering line at the power steering pump.
  10. Remove the power steering line from the vehicle.

Installation Procedure

  1. Position the hoses in place.

  2. Object Number: 183669  Size: SH

    Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  3. Install the power steering line to the pump.
  4. Tighten
    Tighten the power steering gear inlet hose to the pump to 30 N·m (22 lb ft).

  5. Install the power steering line at the steering gear.
  6. Tighten
    Tighten the power steering line at the gear to 30 N·m (22 lb ft).

  7. Install the retainers and the bolts.
  8. Tighten
    Tighten the retainer bolts to 6 N·m (53 lb in).

  9. Install the power steering gear heatshield.
  10. Tighten
    Tighten the retainer bolts to 10 N·m (7 lb ft).

  11. Lower the vehicle.
  12. Fill and bleed the power steering system. Refer to Power Steering System Bleeding .
