Removal Procedure

Tools Required

    • J 36660 Torque/Angle Meter
    • J 37096 Flywheel Holding Tool
    • J 38197 Balancer Remover
  1. Turn OFF the ignition switch.

  2. Object Number: 41363  Size: SH
  3. Remove the serpentine belt (1) from the crankshaft pulley. Refer to Drive Belt Replacement in Engine Mechanical.
  4. Caution: To avoid any vehicle damage, serious personal injury or death when major components are removed from the vehicle and the vehicle is supported by a hoist, support the vehicle with jack stands at the opposite end from which the components are being removed and strap the vehicle to the hoist.

  5. Raise the vehicle on a hoist. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle in General Information.
  6. Remove the right front wheel and tire assembly. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation in Tires and Wheels.
  7. Remove the right inner fender splash shield.
  8. Remove the flywheel inspection cover.
  9. Remove the crankshaft harmonic balancer. Refer to Crankshaft Balancer Removal in Engine Mechanical.

  11. Disconnect the sensor electrical connector (1).

  12. Object Number: 97731  Size: SH

    Important: DO NOT use a pry bar.

  13. Remove the crankshaft position sensor shield.

  14. Object Number: 12303  Size: SH
  15. Remove the 2 attaching bolts from the crankshaft position sensor.
  16. Remove the crankshaft position (CKP) sensor from the block face.

Installation Procedure

  1. Position the CKP sensor to the block.
  2. Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  3. Install the bolts to hold the CKP sensor to the block face.
  4. Tighten
    Tighten the bolts to 30 N·m (22 lb ft).

  5. Install the crankshaft position sensor shield.

  6. Object Number: 380524  Size: SH
  7. Connect the CKP sensor electrical connector (1).
  8. Install the crankshaft harmonic balancer. Refer to Crankshaft Balancer Removal in Engine Mechanical.
  9. Install the right inner fender splash shield.
  10. Install the right front wheel and tire assembly. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation in Tires and Wheels.

  11. Object Number: 41363  Size: SH
  12. Lower the vehicle.
  13. Install the serpentine belt (1) to the crankshaft pulley (2). Refer to Drive Belt Replacement in Engine Mechanical.
  14. Connect the negative battery cable. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection in Engine Electrical.
  15. Perform the Crankshaft Position System Variation Learn Procedure. Refer to Crankshaft Position System Variation Learn .
