Camshaft Position Sensor Replacement 1

Removal Procedure

  1. Turn OFF the ignition switch.
  2. Caution: To avoid any vehicle damage, serious personal injury or death when major components are removed from the vehicle and the vehicle is supported by a hoist, support the vehicle with jack stands at the opposite end from which the components are being removed and strap the vehicle to the hoist.

  3. Raise the vehicle on a hoist. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle in General Information.
  4. Remove the right front wheel and tire assembly. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation in Tires and Wheels.
  5. Remove the splash shield from the right inner fender.

  6. Object Number: 389047  Size: SH
  7. Disconnect the electrical connector (2) from the camshaft position sensor (1).

  8. Object Number: 12305  Size: SH
  9. Remove the camshaft position (CMP) sensor bolt.
  10. Remove the CMP sensor from the engine front cover.

Installation Procedure

  1. Position the CMP sensor to the engine front cover.

  2. Object Number: 12305  Size: SH

    Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  3. Install the CMP sensor retaining bolt.
  4. Tighten
    Tighten the bolt to 10 N·m (88 lb in).

  5. Connect the electrical connector (2) to the CMP sensor (1).
  6. Reinstall the splash shield to the right inner fender.
  7. Install the right front wheel and tire assembly. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation in Tires and Wheels.
