Removal Procedure

Servicing of the catalytic converter requires the replacement of the muffler and tailpipe as a complete one-piece unit.

  1. Remove the oxygen sensor. Refer to Heated Oxygen Sensor Replacement in Engine Controls.
  2. Support the converter.

  3. Object Number: 71751  Size: SH
  4. Remove the front pipe to catalytic converter nuts.

  5. Object Number: 506320  Size: SH
  6. Remove the intermediate pipe hangers at body mounts.
  7. Remove rear hanger at the tailpipe to chassis mount.
  8. Remove the exhaust system from the vehicle.

Installation Procedure


    Object Number: 71751  Size: SH
  1. Support the exhaust system at the converter.
  2. Align the exhaust to the underbody of the vehicle.
  3. Align the converter to the front pipe flange and start the nuts on the converter studs.

  4. Object Number: 506320  Size: SH
  5. Connect the center exhaust hanger to the the underbody.
  6. Connect the rear exhaust hanger to the the rear compartment rail.
  7. Tighten the front pipe to converter nuts.
  8. Tighten
    Tighten the nuts to 25 N·m (18 lb ft).

  9. Install the oxygen sensor. Refer to Heated Oxygen Sensor Replacement in Engine Controls.
