Battery Cable Replacement Negative
Removal Procedure
- Remove the rear seat cushion. Refer to
Rear Seat Cushion Replacement
in Seats.
Caution: Unless directed otherwise, the ignition and start switch must be in the OFF or LOCK position, and all electrical loads must be OFF before servicing
any electrical component. Disconnect the negative battery cable to prevent an electrical spark should a tool or equipment come in contact with an exposed electrical terminal. Failure to follow these precautions may result in personal injury and/or damage to
the vehicle or its components.
- Disconnect the negative battery cable from the battery.
- Disconnect the body harness from the negative battery cable.
- Disconnect the negative battery cable from the floor pan.
- Remove the negative battery cable from the vehicle.
Installation Procedure
Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners
must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring
replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant
are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or
corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified.
These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage
the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when
installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.
Important: When installing the negative battery cable, be sure that the cable eyelet
is installed with the flat side down. Keep the crimped side facing upward.
- Connect the body end of the negative battery cable to the floor pan.
Tighten
Tighten the negative battery cable bolt to 15 N·m (11 lb ft).
- Connect the negative battery cable to the battery.
Tighten
Tighten the negative battery cable bolt to 15 N·m (11 lb ft).
- Connect the body harness connector to the body harness.
- Install the rear seat cushion. Refer to

- Disconnect
the negative battery cable. Refer to

- Disconnect the positive
battery cable (1) from the battery.
- Remove the right side garnish molding. Refer to
Center Pillar Garnish Molding Replacement
in Interior
Trim.
- Remove the right front and rear carpet retainers. Refer to
Carpet Retainer Replacement
in Interior
Trim.
- Remove the right sound insulator. Refer to
Instrument Panel Insulator Panel Replacement - Right Side
in
Instrument Panel, Gauges and Console.
- Remove the battery cable retainers from the rocker panel area.
- Remove the retaining nut (1)
and disconnect the battery cable from the under hood electrical center.
- Disconnect the battery cable retainers at the fender well.
- Unseat the battery cable
grommet (1) from the cowl area.
- Carefully remove the battery cable from the vehicle by pulling
cable through the cowl and out of the vehicle.
Installation Procedure
- Install the battery cable
into vehicle. Slide the cable through the opening in the cowl panel and seat
the cable grommet (1).

- Connect the cable
to the under hood electrical center and install the nut (1).
Tighten
Tighten the positive battery cable bolt to 15 N·m (11 lb ft).
- Connect the cable to the fender well retainers.
- Route the cable along the rocker panel and install all of the
cable fasteners.
- Connect the positive battery
cable (1) to the battery.
Tighten
Tighten the positive battery cable bolt to 15 N·m (11 lb ft).
- Install the right sound insulator. Refer to
Instrument Panel Insulator Panel Replacement - Right Side

- Install the right front and rear carpet retainers. Refer to
Carpet Retainer Replacement
in Interior
Trim.
- Install the right side garnish molding. Refer to

- Connect the negative battery cable. Refer to
