Removal Procedure
- Remove the left closeout insulator panel. Refer to
Instrument Panel Insulator Panel Replacement - Left Side
in Instrument Panel, Gauges, and Console.
- Remove the left knee bolster. Refer to
Knee Bolster Replacement
in Instrument Panel, Gauges and Console.
- Remove the IP carrier assembly. Refer to
Instrument Panel Carrier Replacement
in Instrument Panel, Gauges and Console.
- Disconnect the electrical
connectors (3) from the stoplamp switches (2).
- Remove the pushrod retainer (3)
and washer (2) from the brake pedal clevis pin.
- Remove the accelerator cable from the brake pedal bracket assembly.
- Remove the brake pedal nuts (2,3)
from the booster studs.
- Remove the brake pedal cowl nuts (1) from the cowl
- Remove the bracket and pedal assembly.
Installation Procedure
- Install the brake pedal
assembly onto the booster studs.
Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners
must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring
replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant
are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or
corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified.
These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage
the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when
installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.
- Install the booster
stud nuts (2,3).
Tighten
Tighten the brake pedal to booster stud nuts (2,3) to 23 N·m
(17 lb ft).
- Install the brake pedal bracket nuts (1) onto the cowl
studs.
Tighten
Tighten the cowl stud nuts (1) to 16 N·m (12 lb ft).
- Apply lubricant, GM P/N 9985164 or equivalent, to the brake pedal
clevis pin.
- Install pushrod (1) onto the brake
pedal clevis pin.
- Install the spacer (2) and retainer (3) to the brake
pedal clevis pin.
- Connect the electrical
connectors (3) to the stoplamp switches (2).
- Install the IP assembly. Refer to
Instrument Panel Carrier Replacement
in Instrument Panel, Gauges and Console.
- Install the left knee bolster. Refer to
Knee Bolster Replacement
in Instrument Panel, Gauges and Console.
- Install the left closeout insulator panel. Refer to
Instrument Panel Insulator Panel Replacement - Left Side
in Instrument Panel, Gauges, and Console.
