Removal Procedure

  1. Raise and suitably support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle in General Information.

  2. Object Number: 420684  Size: SH
  3. Loosen and disconnect the front parking brake cable at the adjuster.
  4. Lower the vehicle.
  5. Remove left sound insulator panel to access lever assembly. Refer to Instrument Panel Insulator Panel Replacement - Left Side in Instrument Panel, Gauges, and Console.
  6. Remove the front carpet retainer.
  7. Pull the carpet back to expose the parking brake cable.

  9. Disconnect the electrical connector from the warning switch.

  10. Object Number: 420700  Size: SH
  11. Disconnect the front parking brake cable from lever assembly.

  12. Object Number: 420699  Size: SH
  13. Remove the parking brake lever assembly attaching nuts.
  14. Remove the parking brake lever assembly from the vehicle.

Installation Procedure


    Object Number: 420699  Size: SH
  1. Install parking brake lever assembly to the mounting studs.
  2. Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  3. Install lever attaching nuts.
  4. Tighten
    Tighten the parking brake lever nuts to 24 N·m (18 lb ft).

  5. Connect the front parking brake cable to the lever assembly.
  6. Connect the electrical connector to the parking brake switch.
  7. Reposition carpet.
  8. Install the front carpet retainer.
  9. Install the left sound insulator panel. Refer to Instrument Panel Insulator Panel Replacement - Left Side in Instrument Panel, Gauges, and Console.

  11. Raise the vehicle.
  12. Connect the front park brake cable and adjuster to the Intermediate cable.
  13. Adjust the parking brake. Refer to Park Brake Cable Service/Adjustment .
