Parking Brake Cable Replacement Front

Removal Procedure

  1. Remove the driver door carpet retainer. Refer to Carpet Retainer Replacement in Interior Trim.
  2. Remove the left sound insulator panel. Refer to Instrument Panel Insulator Panel Replacement - Left Side in Instrument Panel, Gauges and Console.

  3. Object Number: 420694  Size: SH
  4. Pull the edge of the carpet back enough to access grommet.
  5. Loosen the grommet from the floor pan.
  6. Raise the vehicle and support. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle in General Information.

  7. Object Number: 420684  Size: SH
  8. Disconnect the cable adjuster from the front cable.
  9. Release the retaining tabs holding the front cable housing in the floor pan and push the cable upward.
  10. Lower the vehicle.

  12. Disconnect the cable from the lever assembly.
  13. Remove the parking brake front cable assembly.

Installation Procedure


    Object Number: 420695  Size: SH
  1. Route the front parking brake cable through the floor pan.

  2. Object Number: 420694  Size: SH
  3. Install the cable housing retainer and grommet into the floor pan.

  4. Object Number: 420700  Size: SH
  5. Connect the cable to the lever assembly and install the retainer.
  6. Reposition the carpet.
  7. Install the driver door carpet retainer. Refer to Carpet Retainer Replacement in Interior Trim.
  8. Install the left sound insulator panel. Refer to Instrument Panel Insulator Panel Replacement - Left Side in Instrument Panel, Gauges and Console.
  9. Raise the vehicle.

  11. Install the cable into the cable guides.

  12. Object Number: 420684  Size: SH
  13. Connect the adjuster to the front cable.
  14. Adjust the parking brake cable. Refer to Park Brake Cable Service/Adjustment .

Parking Brake Cable Replacement Intermediate

Removal Procedure


    Object Number: 420684  Size: SH
  1. Raise the vehicle and support. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle in General Information.
  2. Loosen the adjuster and disconnect the intermediate parking brake cable.
  3. Disconnect intermediate cable housing from the cable retaining bracket.

  4. Object Number: 106224  Size: SH
  5. Disconnect the intermediate cable (3) from the rear equalizer (1).
  6. Disconnect the intermediate cable housing from the rear cable housing retaining bracket.
  7. Remove the intermediate cable.

Installation Procedure


    Object Number: 106224  Size: SH
  1. Route and install the intermediate parking cable into brake cable retaining brackets.
  2. Connect the left (2) and right (5) rear parking brake cables to the intermediate cable (3), using equalizer (1).

  3. Object Number: 420684  Size: SH
  4. Insert the intermediate cable into the cable retaining bracket and lock the cable into place.
  5. Connect front of the intermediate cable to the front cable using the connecting clip.
  6. Adjust the parking brake cable. Refer to Park Brake Cable Service/Adjustment .

Parking Brake Cable Replacement Rear

Removal Procedure

  1. Raise the vehicle and suitably support. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle in General Information.
  2. Remove the tire and wheel. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation in Tires and Wheels.

  3. Object Number: 106224  Size: SH
  4. Back off the adjuster in the equalizer (1) to release cable tension.
  5. Disconnect right (5) and left (2) rear parking brake cables from the rear equalizer (1).
  6. Remove both brake cables from their brackets by depressing retaining tabs on the cable housings and pulling the cables out of the brackets.

  8. Disconnect both parking brake cables from the parking brake levers.
  9. Remove right and left cable from caliper support brackets by depressing conduit fitting retaining tabs

  10. Object Number: 420687  Size: SH
  11. Remove the parking brake rear cable bracket bolt from the control arm.
  12. Remove the rear cable.

Installation Procedure


    Object Number: 106224  Size: SH
  1. Install both cables (2,5) into their brackets (1,3) by snapping them into place.
  2. Connect both cables to the equalizer (1).

  3. Object Number: 420689  Size: SH
  4. Install right and left cables into the caliper support brackets by snapping into place.
  5. Connect the parking brake cables to the parking brake levers.

  6. Object Number: 420687  Size: SH

    Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  7. Install the cable bracket bolt.
  8. Tighten
    Tighten the bolt to 24 N·m (18 lb ft)

  9. Install the tire and wheel. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation in Tires and Wheels.
  10. Adjust parking brake cable. Refer to Park Brake Cable Service/Adjustment .
