J 39400-A Halogen Leak Detector

Removal Procedure

  1. Recover the refrigerant. Refer to Refrigerant Recovery and Recharging .
  2. Disconnect the negative battery cable. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection in Engine Electrical.

  3. Object Number: 422256  Size: SH
  4. Remove the A/C evaporator hose nut from the accumulator.
  5. Remove the A/C evaporator hose from the accumulator.
  6. Remove the right headlamp to access the evaporator hose nut at the condenser. Refer to Headlamp Replacement in Lighting Systems.

  8. Remove the A/C evaporator hose nut from the condenser.
  9. Remove the A/C evaporator hose from the condenser.

  10. Object Number: 419283  Size: SH
  11. Disconnect the evaporator hose from the accumulator cover.

  12. Object Number: 419227  Size: SH
  13. Disconnect the evaporator line nut from the evaporator.
  14. Disconnect the A/C evaporator hose from the evaporator.
  15. Pry up to remove the A/C line clip from the rail.
  16. Route the accumulator and condenser ends of the hose assembly under the coolant overflow hose.
  17. Remove the A/C evaporator hose from the vehicle.

Installation Procedure

  1. Position the A/C evaporator hose in the vehicle.
  2. Install the A/C evaporator hose clip into the rail.
  3. Important: Inspect the seal washers for damage before reinstalling the A/C lines and hoses.

    If any damage is noted during inspection, the suspect seal must be replaced.

    Flat washer type seals do not require lubrication.

  4. Install the A/C evaporator hose to the evaporator.
  5. Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  6. Install the evaporator line nut.
  7. Tighten
    Tighten the A/C evaporator hose connection to 20 N·m (15 lb ft).

  8. Install the evaporator hose to the accumulator.
  9. Install the evaporator hose nut.
  10. Tighten
    Tighten the connection to 20 N·m (15 lb ft).

  11. Install the A/C evaporator hose to the condenser.
  12. Install the evaporator hose nut.
  13. Tighten
    Tighten the connection to 20 N·m (15 lb ft).

  14. Install the right headlamp. Refer to Headlamp Replacement in Lighting Systems.

  15. Object Number: 419283  Size: SH
  16. Clip the evaporator hose into the accumulator cover.
  17. Connect the negative battery cable. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection in Engine Electrical.
  18. Recharge the A/C system. Refer to Refrigerant Recovery and Recharging .
  19. Leak test the fittings of the component using the J 39400-A .
