  1. Turn OFF the ignition and remove the ignition key.
  2. Install a scan tool.
  3. Open the left front door.
  4. With the scan tool, observe the Key-In-Ignition parameter in the Instrument Panel Module (IPM) data list.

Does the scan tool Indicate that the Key-In-Ignition parameter is ON?

Go to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections in Wiring Systems

Disconnect the key-in-ignition switch signal circuit connector at the ignition switch.

Does the scan tool indicate that the Key In Ignition switch parameter is OFF?

Go to Step 3

Replace the ignition switch. Refer to Ignition Lock Cylinder Replacement - On Vehicle in Steering Wheel and Column - Tilt.

Did you complete the replacement?

Go to Step 6

Test the Key-In-Ignition switch signal circuit harness for a short to ground. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Did you find and correct the condition?

Replace the instrument panel integration module (IPM). Refer to Instrument Panel Module Replacement in Body Control System.

Did you complete the repair?

Operate the system in order to verify the repair.
