System Description

The head-up display (HUD) is a secondary display system that optically projects critical vehicle information off of the windshield. The information may be displayed in English or Metric units. The display system is composed of the HUD module, instrument cluster, control switch, and windshield.

The HUD displays the following images:

    • The speedometer reading
    • The turn signal indicators
    • The high beam indicator ISO symbol
    • The low fuel ISO symbol
    • The check gages indicator
    • The radio frequency, including AM, FM, CD, and Tape

System Operation

The head-up display (HUD) system has an electric tilt adjust that is controlled by the HUD up/down switch. Moving this switch directs the motor to move the HUD image up or down on the windshield. The HUD is also equipped with automatic dimming which gives the HUD the ability to sense outside light conditions, via a photo-cell and automatically adjusts the brightness levels. You may manually adjust the HUD image brightness by moving the HUD dim switch. The HUD up/down switch and the HUD dim switch are located to the left of the steering column.

The HUD module uses various inputs in order to display the images. Below you will find a list of the HUD images and their input source:

    • Speedometer-The speedometer receives it's input from the powertrain control module (PCM).
    • Turn Signals-The turn signal indicators are driven by the exterior lighting subsystem.
    • High Beam-The DIM monitors the high beam switch input.
    • Check Gauges-The IPC monitors different inputs and sends the message to illuminate.
    • Low Fuel - The IPC monitors the fuel input and sends a message to illuminate.
    • Radio Display - The radio sends the information to the HUD.
