Did you perform the Instrument Cluster Diagnostic System Check?

  1. Unbuckle the driver seat belt.
  2. Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF.
  3. Observe the fasten seat belt indicator on the instrument cluster.

Does the indicator illuminate during the bulb check?

Does the indicator remain illuminated after the bulb check?

  1. Disconnect the seat belt switch.
  2. Connect a 3 amp fused jumper wire between the signal circuit of the seat belt switch and a good ground.
  3. With a scan tool, observe the Driver Side Belt Status parameter in the Supplemental Inflatable Restraint data list.

Does the scan tool display Unbuckled?

  1. Disconnect the fused jumper wire.
  2. Connect a 3 amp fused jumper wire between the input circuit of the seat belt switch and the ground circuit of the seat belt switch.
  3. With a scan tool, observe the Driver Side Belt Status parameter in the Supplemental Inflatable Restraint data list.

Does the scan tool display Unbuckled?

Test the input circuit of the seat belt switch for a high resistance or an open. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Test the ground circuit of the seat belt switch for a high resistance or an open. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Inspect for poor connections at the harness connector of the seat belt switch. Refer to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections and Connector Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Inspect for poor connections at the harness connector of the inflatable restraint sensing and diagnostic module (SDM). Refer to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections and Connector Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Replace the seat belt switch. Refer to Front Seat Belt Buckle Replacement in Seat Belts.
