Subject: | SECURITY Indicator Comes On Intermittently When Trying to Start Vehicle Or During Normal Vehicle Operation (Adjust PASS-Key® III Module and/or Replace Ignition Key) |
Models: | 2000 Buick LeSabre |
Some customers may comment that when trying to start the vehicle or during normal vehicle operation, the SECURITY Indicator light on the instrument panel cluster comes on. This condition may be intermittent.
This condition may be due to an increase in the distance between the ignition key and the PASS-Key® III Module. The cause of the increased distance may be due to the PASS-Key® III Module being pushed past the mechanical stop located on the key cylinder casting on the steering column and/or a weak transponder in the ignition key.
Adjust the position of the PASS-Key® III Module on the key cylinder casting on the steering column and/or replace the ignition key.
Refer to Knee Bolster Replacement in the Instrument Panel, Gauges and Console sub-section of the Service Manual.
Refer to the Steering Column Shrouds -- Disassembly procedure in the Steering Wheel and Column -- Tilt sub-section of the Service Manual.
• | If the SECURITY Indicator light stays OFF, proceed to Step 8. |
• | If the SECURITY Indicator light comes ON during the 1 minute, proceed to Step 5. |
• | Perform this test at least 3 times. |
• | Press in on the key and hold for 30 seconds. |
• | This will bring the key closer to the PASS-Key® III Module. |
Refer to the Steering Column Shrouds -- Disassembly procedure in the Steering Wheel and Column -- Tilt sub-section of the Service Manual.
