No Start/Intermittent Start (Install Generator Assm/Two Jumper Harness Assms)

Some customers may comment that the vehicle will not start or will start intermittently and, depending on the vehicle, that the voltmeter gage reading is in the low red zone or the Driver Information Center (DIC) is displaying a CHECK CHARGE SYSTEM message.

In addition, Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) P0620 may be set.

During normal operation, the generator assembly may be receiving excessive voltage surges from the engine electric cooling fans.

If a failed generator is indicated after performing the standard diagnostic procedures in the appropriate Service Manual, install a new or remanufactured generator assembly and two jumper harness assemblies. Each jumper harness contains an integral surge suppression diode.

Repair Procedure

1. Remove the existing generator assembly and install a new or remanufactured generator assembly.

Refer to Generator Replacement in the Engine Electrical sub-section of the Service Manual.

2. Disconnect the LH engine electrical cooling fan motor wiring harness electrical connector from the motor.



3. Connect the jumper harness (female end), P/N 12165487, to the LH engine electrical cooling fan motor (1).
4. Connect the jumper harness (male end) to the LH engine electrical cooling fan motor wiring harness.

Caution: Ensure that the harness assemblies are routed and secured away from the brake and power steering fluid lines.

5. Secure the jumper harness to the engine electric cooling fan shroud using a tie strap (2).
6. Repeat Steps 2 -- 5 for installation of the jumper harness to the RH engine electric cooling fan motor harness.
