Removal Procedure

    Caution: When you are performing service on or near the SIR components or the SIR wiring, you must disable the SIR system. Refer to Disabling the SIR System. Failure to follow the correct procedure could cause air bag deployment, personal injury, or unnecessary SIR system repairs.

  1. Disable the SIR system. Refer to Disabling the SIR System in SIR.
  2. Remove the left closeout panel. Refer to Instrument Panel Insulator Panel Replacement - Left Side .
  3. Remove the right closeout panel. Refer to Instrument Panel Insulator Panel Replacement - Right Side .
  4. Remove the left instrument panel (IP) endcap. Refer to Instrument Panel Outer Trim Cover Replacement - Left Side .
  5. Remove the right instrument panel (IP) endcap. Refer to Instrument Panel Outer Trim Cover Replacement - Right Side .
  6. Remove the IP upper trim pad. Refer to Instrument Panel Upper Trim Pad Replacement .
  7. Remove the radio. Refer to Radio Replacement in Entertainment.
  8. Remove the knee bolster. Refer to Knee Bolster Replacement .
  9. Disconnect and position aside the steering column. Refer to Steering Column Replacement in Steering Wheel and Column-Tilt.
  10. Remove the IP cluster. Refer to Instrument Cluster Replacement .
  11. Remove the right IP accessory trim plate. Refer to Instrument Panel Accessory Trim Plate Replacement - Right Side .
  12. Remove the left IP accessory trim plate. Refer to Instrument Panel Accessory Trim Plate Replacement - Left Side .
  13. Remove the center IP trim plate. Refer to Instrument Panel Center Trim Panel Replacement .
  14. Remove the IP storage compartment. Refer to Instrument Panel Storage Compartment Replacement .

  16. Remove the fasteners from the IP retainer to the IP carrier.

  17. Object Number: 497515  Size: SH
  18. Remove the wiring retainers from the IP carrier.
  19. Disconnect the IAT sensor electrical connector.
  20. Disconnect the ashtray lamp electrical connector.
  21. Disconnect the cigarette lighter electrical connector.
  22. Remove the IP retainer from the carrier. Feed the wiring through the openings as necessary.
  23. Transfer all the necessary components to the new retainer.

Installation Procedure

  1. Install the IP retainer to the carrier. Feed the wiring through the openings as removed.
  2. Connect the cigarette lighter electrical connector.
  3. Connect the ashtray lamp electrical connector.
  4. Connect the IAT sensor electrical connector.
  5. Install the wiring harness retainers to the IP carrier.

    Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  7. Install the fasteners that retain the IP retainer to the IP carrier.
  8. Tighten
    Tighten the fasteners to 2 N·m (18 lb in).

  9. Install the IP cluster. Refer to Instrument Cluster Replacement .
  10. Install the center IP trim plate. Refer to Instrument Panel Center Trim Panel Replacement .
  11. Install the right IP accessory trim plate. Refer to Instrument Panel Accessory Trim Plate Replacement - Right Side .
  12. Install the left IP accessory trim plate. Refer to Instrument Panel Accessory Trim Plate Replacement - Left Side .
  13. Install the IP storage compartment. Refer to Instrument Panel Storage Compartment Replacement .
  14. Install the steering column. Refer to Steering Column Replacement in Steering Wheel and Column-Tilt.
  15. Install the knee bolster. Refer to Knee Bolster Replacement .
  16. Install the radio. Refer to Radio Replacement in Entertainment.
  17. Install the IP upper trim pad. Refer to Instrument Panel Upper Trim Pad Replacement .
  18. Install the right IP endcap. Refer to Instrument Panel Outer Trim Cover Replacement - Right Side .
  19. Install the left IP endcap. Refer to Instrument Panel Outer Trim Cover Replacement - Left Side .
  20. Install the left closeout panel. Refer to Instrument Panel Insulator Panel Replacement - Left Side .
  21. Install the right closeout panel. Refer to Instrument Panel Insulator Panel Replacement - Right Side .
  22. Enable the SIR system. Refer to Enabling the SIR System in SIR.
