Did you review the Wiper/Washer System Description and Operation and perform the necessary inspections?

Go to Step 2

  1. Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF.
  2. Turn the windshield wiper/washer switch to LO.
  3. Turn the windshield wiper/washer switch to HI.
  4. Turn OFF the windshield wiper/washer switch.

Do the windshield wipers operate properly?

Go to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections in Wiring Systems

Go to Step 3

Remove the ACCY 15A fuse #2 in the underhood fuse block.

Do the windshield wipers stop?

Go to Step 5

Go to Step 4

Test the following circuits for a short to voltage:

    • windshield wiper switch signal 1 circuit.
    • windshield wiper switch signal 2 circuit
    • windshield wiper motor high speed circuit

Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Did you find and correct the condition?

Go to Step 8

  1. Disconnect the steering column harness connector C202.
  2. Disconnect the windshield wiper/washer switch connector.
  3. Test for continuity between the windshield wiper switch signal circuits and the windshield wiper switch accessory voltage supply circuit in the steering column harness. Refer to Circuit Testing and to Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Did you find and correct the condition?

Go to Step 8

Replace the windshield wiper/washer switch. Refer to Multifunction, Turn Signal, and Hazard Switch Replacement - On Vehicle in Steering Wheel and Column - Tilt.

Did you complete the replacement?

Go to Step 8

Replace the windshield wiper motor. Refer to Windshield Wiper Motor Replacement .

Operate the system in order to verify the repair.

System OK
