Water Leak on the Left Front or Rear Floor - kw brake carpet channel overflow park panel pan wet

Subject:Water Leak on the Left Front or Rear Floor

Models:.

The following diagnosis might be helpful if the vehicle exhibits the symptom described in the PI.

Condition/Concern:

The vehicle may exhibit a water leak on the left front or rear floor.

Recommendation/Instructions:

This condition may not be an actual water leak. The condition could be a drainage issue in the cavity behind the Kick panel/Park brake pedal area. This cavity is designed to be a Wet Cavity and it is normal to see water draining in this area when the cowl is sprayed with water. The water will flow into the rocker panel front dogleg area and out a drain hole to the ground. In some circumstances, the cavity may have be obstructed with foam and not be able to handle the amount of water entering it and water could spill out onto the floor through a small oval hole about a quarter inch in diameter. The oval hole is located just below a square 2-inch opening. The foam is sprayed into a near by area during production to reduce noise and could expand into the dogleg area.

*** Do not attempt to apply this PI unless the concern is verified as a drainage issue. ***

  1. Remove the kick panel trim.
  2. Use a bright light and a mirror to view the sill of the dogleg area in the rocker panel (If the foam is present it will be gray/black in color.)
  3. Use a welding rod or other device to pick the foam into small pieces and use a shop vacuum to remove the particles, remove as much foam as possible.
  4. Retest for proper drainage.
  5. Reassemble the vehicle.

.

Please follow this diagnosis process thoroughly and complete each step. If the condition exhibited is resolved without completing every step, the remaining steps do not need to be performed. If these steps do not resolve the condition, please contact GM TAC for further diagnostic assistance.
