Removal Procedure

    Caution: This vehicle is equipped with a Supplemental Inflatable Restraint (SIR) System. Failure to follow the correct procedure could cause the following conditions:

       • Air bag deployment
       • Personal injury
       • Unnecessary SIR system repairs
    In order to avoid the above conditions, observe the following guidelines:
       • Refer to SIR Component Views in order to determine if you are performing service on or near the SIR components or the SIR wiring.
       • If you are performing service on or near the SIR components or the SIR wiring, disable the SIR system. Refer to Disabling the SIR System.

  1. Disable the SIR system. Refer to Disabling the SIR System in SIR.
  2. Remove the steering column trim covers. Refer to Steering Column Trim Covers Replacement - On Vehicle .
  3. Remove the shift lever from the linear shift assembly. Refer to Shift Lever Replacement - On Vehicle .

  4. Object Number: 324906  Size: SH
  5. Disconnect the automatic transmission shift lock actuator from the linear shift assembly.

  6. Object Number: 746041  Size: SH
  7. Disconnect the transmission shift cable from the linear shift assembly.

  8. Object Number: 324874  Size: SH
  9. Disconnect the park lock cable assembly (1).
  10. Insert a small screwdriver into the slot on the lock module assembly and push against the parklock cable locking tab to remove the parklock cable.

  12. Remove the linear shift assembly retaining screws.
  13. Remove the linear shift assembly.

Installation Procedure


    Object Number: 324916  Size: SH

    Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  1. Install the linear shift assembly and retaining screws.
  2. Tighten
    Tighten the linear shift assembly retaining screws to 10 N·m (89 lb in).

  3. Connect the park lock cable assembly (1) to the lock module assembly.

  5. Connect the transmission shift cable to the linear shift assembly.

  6. Object Number: 324906  Size: SH
  7. Connect the automatic transmission shift lock actuator to the linear shift assembly.
  8. Adjust the automatic transmission shift lock. Refer to Automatic Transmission Shift Lock Actuator Replacement in Shift Lock Control.
  9. Install the shift lever. Refer to Shift Lever Replacement - On Vehicle
  10. Install the steering column trim covers. Refer to Steering Column Trim Covers Replacement - On Vehicle .
  11. Enable the SIR system. Refer to Enabling the SIR System in SIR.
