6.2. The oil filter adapter gasket.
6.3. The oil pressure relief valve.
6.4. The oil pressure relief valve spring.
  11. Clean all parts in a suitable solvent and allow to dry.
  12. Inspect the following components:
  13. • Oil pressure valve for burrs
    • Valve bore for burrs
    • Valve spring for loss of tension

Installation Procedure

    Object Number: 499837 Size: SH
  1. Install the spring into the engine front cover.
  2. Install the oil pressure valve into the engine front cover.
  3. Install a new oil filter adapter gasket.
  4. Install the oil filter adapter.
  5. Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  6. Install the oil filter adapter bolts.
  7. Tighten
Tighten the oil filter adapter bolts to 15 N·m (11 lb ft). Use the J 45059 to tighten the oil filter adapter bolts an additional 50 degrees.

    Object Number: 499828 Size: SH
  8. Lightly oil the replacement oil filter gasket with clean oil.
  9. Notice: Replacement components must be the correct part number for the application. Components requiring the use of the thread locking compound, lubricants, corrosion inhibitors, or sealants are identified in the service procedure. Some replacement components may come with these coatings already applied. Do not use these coatings on components unless specified. These coatings can affect the final torque, which may affect the operation of the component. Use the correct torque specification when installing components in order to avoid damage.

  10. Install the new oil filter.
  11. Tighten
Tighten the new oil filter to 3/4 to 1 full turn, after the oil filter gasket contacts the oil filter mounting surface.

    Object Number: 724165 Size: SH
  12. Install the engine oil pressure switch (1) to the oil filter adapter using the J 41712 .
  13. Tighten
Tighten the engine oil pressure switch to 16 N·m (12 lb ft).

  14. Connect the electrical connector to the engine oil pressure switch (1).
  15. Lower the vehicle.
  16. Inspect for oil leaks after engine start up.
  17. Adjust the engine oil level to the full mark.
