Removal Procedure

  1. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle in General Information.
  2. Remove the tire and wheel. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation in Tires and Wheels.

  3. Object Number: 155713  Size: SH
  4. Support the control arm with a jack stand.
  5. Disconnect the Automatic Level Control air tube from the shock.
  6. Remove the lower shock absorber retaining bolts.
  7. Remove the trunk trim to gain access to the shock absorber upper mounting nuts.

  9. Remove the upper shock absorber cover.
  10. Remove the upper shock absorber retaining nuts.
  11. Remove the upper shock absorber reinforcement.

  12. Object Number: 155715  Size: SH
  13. Remove the shock from the vehicle.

Installation Procedure


    Object Number: 155715  Size: SH

    Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  1. Install the shock, reinforcement, and the retaining nuts.
  2. Tighten
    Tighten the upper shock absorber retaining nuts to 20 N·m (15 lb ft).

  3. Install the upper shock absorber cover.
  4. Install the trunk trim.

  5. Object Number: 155713  Size: SH
  6. Install the lower shock absorber retaining bolts.
  7. Tighten
    Tighten the lower shock absorber retaining bolts to 24 N·m (18 lb ft).

  8. Connect the Automatic Level Control air tube to the shock.
  9. Install the tire and wheel. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation in Tires and Wheels.
  10. Lower the vehicle.
