Schematic Reference: Door Control Module Schematics and Door Lock/Indicator Schematics

Important: For Diagnostic Aids, refer to Testing for Electrical Intermittents and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

DEFINITION: Door locks do not operate from the door cylinder switch, which is a built in part of the door lock actuator. It is activated by a rod connected to the door lock cylinder mounted on the exterior of the door.

Did you perform the Doors System Diagnostic System Check?

  1. Install a scan tool.
  2. With a scan tool, observe the inoperative Door Cylinder Switch parameter in the Driver Door Module Inputs data list.

Does the scan tool display the Idle state?

Go to Step 3

Go to Step 4

  1. Insert the door key into the outside door lock cylinder of the inoperative door.
  2. Turn the key to the UNLOCK position and hold it there for 3-5 seconds.
  3. With a scan tool, observe the inoperative Door Cylinder Switch parameter.

Does the scan tool display UNLOCK?

Go to Testing for Electrical Intermittents in Wiring Systems

Important:: Check to make sure that the linkage between the outside door lock cylinder and the door lock actuator containing the door cylinder switch is not stuck or binding.

  1. Disconnect the harness connector of the inoperative door cylinder switch.
  2. With a scan tool, observe the appropriate Door Cylinder Switch parameter.

Does the scan tool display the Idle state?

Go to Step 10

Important:: Check to make sure that the linkage between the outside door lock cylinder and the door lock actuator containing the door cylinder switch is not loose or unfastened.

  1. Disconnect the harness connector of the inoperative door cylinder switch.
  2. Connect a 3-amp fused jumper between the door key switch signal circuit and the ground circuit of the connector.
  3. With a scan tool, observe the appropriate Door Cylinder Switch parameter.

Does the scan tool display Unlock?

Go to Step 10

Test the door key switch signal circuit of the inoperative door cylinder switch for a short to ground. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Go to Step 13

Test the door key switch signal circuit of the inoperative door cylinder switch for an open or a high resistance. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Test the door key switch ground circuit of the inoperative door cylinder switch for an open or a high resistance. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Inspect for poor connections at the harness connector of the door module associated with the inoperative door cylinder switch. Refer to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections and Connector Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Inspect for poor connections at the harness connector of the inoperative door cylinder switch. Refer to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections and Connector Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Replace the inoperative door module. Refer to Door Control Module Replacement .

Replace the inoperative door lock actuator (it contains the door cylinder switch). Refer to Front Side Door Latch Replacement .

Operate the system to verify the repair.
