Removal Procedure

    Caution: Refer to SIR Caution in the Preface section.

  1. Disable the SIR system. Refer to SIR Disabling and Enabling in SIR.
  2. Caution: Unless directed otherwise, the ignition and start switch must be in the OFF or LOCK position, and all electrical loads must be OFF before servicing any electrical component. Disconnect the negative battery cable to prevent an electrical spark should a tool or equipment come in contact with an exposed electrical terminal. Failure to follow these precautions may result in personal injury and/or damage to the vehicle or its components.

  3. Disconnect the battery negative cable. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection in Engine Electrical.
  4. Position the steering wheel half way between the upper and lower tilt stops.
  5. Remove the steering wheel. Refer to Steering Wheel Replacement .
  6. Remove the tilt lever. Refer to Tilt Lever Replacement .

  8. Remove the retaining screws from the lower steering column trim cover.
  9. Remove the trim cover.

  11. Remove the retaining screws (3) from the upper steering column trim cover.

  12. Object Number: 375310  Size: SH
  13. Lift the trim cover to gain access to the lock cylinder access hole.
  14. Using a bent tip awl, insert the tip into the ignition lock cylinder access hole.

  16. Turn the ignition lock cylinder to the START position.
  17. Using the bent tip awl, push down on the ignition lock cylinder retaining pin.
  18. Release the ignition lock cylinder to the RUN position.

  20. Remove the ignition lock cylinder from the ignition lock cylinder case assembly by pulling the ignition lock cylinder away from the steering column.

Installation Procedure

  1. Insert the ignition lock cylinder through the upper steering column trim cover.
  2. Install the ignition lock cylinder to the ignition lock cylinder case assembly by performing the following procedures:
  3. 2.1. Align the tabs on the ignition lock cylinder to the slots on the ignition lock cylinder case assembly.
    2.2. Push the ignition lock cylinder into the ignition lock cylinder case assembly until the locking tab locks against the locking tab slot.

    Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  4. Install the retaining screws (3) to the upper steering column trim cover.
  5. Tighten
    Tighten the screws to 1.5 N·m (13 lb in).

  6. Install the lower steering column trim cover to the closeout shroud.
  7. Install the retaining screws to the lower steering column trim cover.
  8. Tighten
    Tighten the screws to 3.5 N·m (31 lb in).

  9. Install the tilt lever. Refer to Tilt Lever Replacement .
  10. Install the steering wheel. Refer to Steering Wheel Replacement .
  11. Connect the negative battery cable. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection in Engine Electrical.
  12. Enable the SIR system. Refer to SIR Disabling and Enabling in SIR.
