Verify the fault is present.

Does the system operate normally?

While the windshield wiper/washer system is in the automatic mode does the wiper motor operate at continuous delay intervals?

Go to Step 5

Go to Step 4

  1. Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF.
  2. Operate the windshield wiper/washer switch from the OFF position through all of the delay positions.

Does the wiper motor cycle once and stop every time the switch is advanced to the next delay position?

  1. Disconnect the moisture sensor connector.
  2. Connect a test lamp from the accessory voltage supply circuit terminal in the harness connector to ground.

Does the test lamp illuminate?

Go to Step 6

Connect a test lamp from the accessory voltage supply circuit terminal to the ground circuit terminal in the moisture sensor harness connector.

Does the test lamp illuminate?

Test the moisture sensor signal 1 circuit for an open, short to ground, or short to battery positive voltage. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Go to Step 13

Test the moisture sensor signal 2 circuit for an open, short to ground, or short to battery positive voltage. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Repair the accessory voltage supply circuit to the moisture sensor for an open or high resistance. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Is the repair complete?

Repair the moisture sensor ground circuit for an open or high resistance. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Inspect for poor connections at the moisture sensor. Refer to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections and Connector Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Did you find and correct the condition?

Go to Step 13

Replace the moisture sensor. Refer to Windshield Outside Moisture Sensor Replacement .

Is the repair complete?
