AC DELCO RADIO REPAIR NEW CAR LIMITED WARRANTY

MODELS AFFECTED: ALL 1988 MODELS

New Car Limited Warranty

Factory installed radios are included within the coverage under the "New Car Warranty". This limited warranty coverage applies for 12 months or 12,000 miles, whichever occurs first. Radios requiring repair under the warranty period must be sent to an authorized AC/Delco Repair Center. Refer to AC/Delco SD-2 Authorized Service Center Directory (Dated September, 1986) for current listing of radio service and exchange centers.

Extended Warranty Vehicles

Radios repaired on vehicles with over 12,000 miles/or 12 months, but covered by the Optional Limited Warranty Extension, require that a copy of the Extended Warranty Validation Form be submitted along with the Warranty Repair Claim (ACD 1078A) (Figure 1). The extended Warranty Validation Form should be located in the owners warranty folder. This will provide the Warranty Repair Center with the evidence that the vehicle is covered for the extended warranty period.

Dealer-Installed Delco Radios

Delco radios that are installed by the dealer or are upgraded (i.e. car ordered with AM radio, dealer installed AM-FM stereo radio at later date) are covered under either the 90 day/4000 miles parts warranty or for the remainder of the vehicle's original basic New Car Limited Warranty, whichever is greater.

Exchange Program

AC/Delco Radio Service Centers identified by an "EX" in the SD-2 Directory have exchange radios available. Not all radio models are available at every service exchange center. However, prior approval of the owner to accept a repair unit must be obtained and noted on the repair order. This program is very helpful in handling touring owners or an owner who objects to driving with the radio removed.

Procedure

Whether repairing or exchanging the radio, dealers should never refer the owner to the AC/Delco Service Center, but should handle the transaction for the owner as follows:

* Remove the unit requiring repair from the car, complete all red shaded areas of the Warranty Repair Claim (ACD 1078A) (Figure 1) for AC/Delco items and send the unit and ALL five (5) copies of the completed form to the authorized AC/Delco Exchange Center or Service Center in your area. All information except for dealer's signature must be typed.

* The repaired or exchange unit will be returned to your dealership for installation in the owner's vehicle.

* The returned unit will have with it the dealer's copy of the AC/Delco form, properly completed. A Warranty Claim is to be submitted for the R&R of the unit, along with the freight charges. The dealer copy of the Form ACD 1078A and the freight receipt or shipping invoice are to be attached to the scrapping copy of the Buick Warranty Claim.

* If the repair is done by the dealer, or sublet to other than an AC/Delco Service Center, credit will be allowed on a Buick Warranty Claim. Allowances for such repairs are included in the Labor Time Guide. Sublet repair charges should be included on the claim and the sublet bill retained in the usual manner.

* An additional 0.2 hour administrative allowance may be applied for when radios are repaired under warranty by an AC/Delco Service Center or other qualified service outlet. This additional time must be entered as "other labor hours" on the Buick Warranty Claim.

Unusual Radio Interference Conditions

It is the responsibility of the dealership to diagnose and repair radio interference co.nditions caused by other components on the vehicle. In unusual cases where the dealership has been unable to determine the cause of the interference, it may be necessary to sublet the repairs to an AC/Delco Warranty Service Center. The dealership will be responsible for the cost of repairs made by the warranty service center. Prior authorization should be obtained for such repairs before the sublet repair costs are submitted on a warranty claim.

CB Radio

When a problem exists with a CB radio, all of the components should be sent in. This includes radio chassis, transceiver, interconnecting harness, chassis microphones and cables. Without all of these components, the radio cannot be diagnosed properly. If the failure is CB related only, the radio chassis does not need to be sent.

Delco-GM/Bose Music System -------------------------- These systems (UU8 and UTO) are available on some 1988 Buicks. The radio receiver and/or amplifier module(s) [not complete enclosure(s)] should be submitted to the AC/Delco Service Center when a repair is required. Only one ACD 1078A form per vehicle should be submitted, regardless of the number of amplifiers and/or the receiver requiring repair. Speakers should be serviced separately by the dealership. Multiple Component Delco Radio System

Some stereo systems installed in certain 1988 Buicks have between two and four major components depending upon the options. These components may include the radio receiver, remote control head, tape deck and the trunk mounted amplifier (UTO). When a repair is required in either the radio receiver or remote control head, both units should be submitted to the AC/Delco Service Center. The tape deck and amplifier can be returned separately, depending upon the nature of the problem. The 1988 Buick Riviera stereo system consists of a radio receiver, tape deck, Graphic Control Center (GCC) monitor, GCC Controller and amplifier modules (UTO). Follow the diagnostic procedure in your 1988 Chassis Service Manual. GCC monitor requiring repair should be returned to one of the AC/Delco Service Centers that services monitors. GCC Monitor Service Centers are the same as those for digital and quartz cluster repair. GCC Controller are obtained - through GMSPO. Speakers should be serviced separately by the dealership.
