Starter Solenoid Cable Replacement RPO LD8
Removal Procedure
Important:
• | Always use replacement cables that are of the same type, diameter and length of the cables that you are replacing. |
• | Always route the replacement cable the same way as the original cable. |
- Disconnect the battery negative cable. Refer to
Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection
.
- Remove the front compartment sight shield. Refer to
Front Compartment Sight Shields Replacement
.
- Disconnect the engine harness electrical connectors (1) from the starter solenoid cable electrical connectors.
- Remove the intake manifold. Refer to
Intake Manifold Replacement
.
- Disengage the junction block cover lock tabs.
- Remove the junction block cover.
- Remove the nut (1) securing the starter solenoid cable to the bussed electrical center (BEC).
- Remove the starter solenoid cable from the BEC stud.
- Remove the "BAT" terminal nut (1) from the starter.
- Remove the "S" terminal nut (2) from the starter.
- Remove the starter solenoid cable from the starter.
- Reposition the starter solenoid cable protective boot (1) at the generator.
- Remove the generator terminal nut (2).
- Remove the starter solenoid cable terminal (3) from the generator.
- Remove the starter solenoid cable clips (1) from the left camshaft cover.
- Remove the starter solenoid cable.
Installation Procedure
- Layout the starter solenoid cable on top of the engine.
- Install the starter solenoid cable clips (1) to the left camshaft cover.
- Install the starter solenoid cable terminal (3) to the generator.
Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in the Preface section.
- Install the generator terminal nut (2).
Tighten
Tighten the nut to 12 N·m (106 lb in).
- Position the starter solenoid cable protective boot (1) at the generator.
- Install the starter solenoid cable to the starter.
- Install the "S" terminal nut (2) to the starter.
Tighten
Tighten the nut to 4 N·m (35 lb in).
- Install the "BAT" terminal nut (1) to the starter.
Tighten
Tighten the nut to 10 N·m (89 lb in).
- Install the starter solenoid cable to the BEC stud.
- Install the nut (1) securing the starter solenoid cable to the BEC.
Tighten
Tighten the nut to 15 N·m (11 lb ft).
- Install the junction block cover.
- Install the intake manifold. Refer to
Intake Manifold Replacement
.
- Connect the engine harness electrical connectors (1) to the starter solenoid cable electrical
connectors.
- Install the front compartment sight shield. Refer to
Front Compartment Sight Shields Replacement
.
- Connect the battery negative cable. Refer to
Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection
.

Removal Procedure
Important:

- Disconnect the negative battery cable. Refer to
Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection
.
- Remove the intake manifold cover. Refer to
Intake Manifold Cover Replacement
.
- Disengage the junction block cover lock tabs.
- Remove the junction block cover.
- Remove the nut (4) securing the starter cable (3) to the bussed electrical center (BEC).
- Remove the starter cable from the BEC stud.
- Remove the starter cable bolt (7) from the side rail.
- Reposition the starter cable terminal (5) from the side rail.
- Remove the starter cable retainer (1) from the tie bar.
- Remove the starter cable retainer (2) from the BEC housing.
- Remove the starter cable retainer (6) from the side rail.
- Reposition the starter cable boot.
- Remove the generator terminal nut.
- Remove the starter cable from the generator.
- Remove the front compartment sight shield. Refer to
Front Compartment Sight Shields Replacement
.
- Remove the "BAT" terminal nut (3) from the starter.
- Remove the starter solenoid cable terminal (4) from the starter.
- Remove the starter cable ground bolt (5) and reposition the starter cable ground.
- Remove the starter cable retainers (1, 6) from the frame.
- Remove the starter cable.
Installation Procedure
- Place the starter cable inside the engine compartment.
- Install the starter cable retainers (1, 6) to the frame. Ensure that the retainer (6) also secures the engine harness to the frame.
Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in the Preface section.
- Position the starter cable ground to the engine and install the starter cable ground bolt (5).
Tighten
Tighten the bolt to 25 N·m (18 lb ft).
- Remove the starter solenoid cable terminal (4) to the starter.
- Install the "BAT" terminal nut (3) to the starter.
Tighten
Tighten the nut to 10 N·m (89 lb in).
- Install the front compartment sight shield. Refer to
Front Compartment Sight Shields Replacement
.
- Install the starter cable to the generator.
- Install the generator terminal nut.
Tighten
Tighten the nut to 20 N·m (15 lb ft).
- Position the starter cable boot.
- Install the starter cable retainer (6) to the side rail.
- Install the starter cable retainer (2) to the BEC housing.
- Install the starter cable retainer (1) to the tie bar.
- Position the starter cable terminal (5) to the side rail.
- Install the starter cable bolt (7) to the side rail.
Tighten
Tighten the bolt to 20 N·m (15 lb ft).
- Install the starter cable to the BEC stud.
- Install the nut (4) securing the starter cable (3) to the BEC.
Tighten
Tighten the nut to 15 N·m (11 lb ft).
- Install the junction block cover.
- Install the intake manifold cover. Refer to
Intake Manifold Cover Replacement
.
- Connect the negative battery cable. Refer to
Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection
.
