Front or Rear Door Trim Panel/Map Pocket Squeaks (Install New Door Trim Panel Retainers with Inserts)

Some customers may comment on a door trim squeak while resting their arm on the armrest or when closing the front or rear door by the armrest. Other customers may comment on the front door map pocket squeaks when pushing against it or reaching into the pocket.

The current door trim panel retainers may become loose or pull out causing the panel to loosen against the door frame and squeak.

Remove the door trim panel and replace the door trim panel retainers with inserts around the bottom and rearward positions of the door trim panel using the steps below.

1. Remove the door trim panel. Refer to Front Side Door Trim Panel Replacement or Rear Side Door Trim Panel Replacement in SI.

Important: The front position door trim panel retainers (white) are reusable and should not be replaced unless the retainers were missing or damaged during removal. Also, make sure the two metal door trim armrest retaining tabs are present and reinstalled into the door frame plastic attaching tabs.

2. Remove the five door trim panel retainers around the bottom and rearward positions of the door trim and discard. Note that the Buick rear door trim panel will have six retainers to discard.

3. Install the five new green retainers with inserts around the bottom and rearward positions of the door trim panel referring to the graphics above for exact location. With the exception of the Buick rear door trim panel, you will need six retainers with inserts.

Tip
Use a small pick-type tool along with a door trim remover-type tool to add in removing the old inserts from the inner door frame.

4. Remove the old door frame inserts where the new retainers and inserts will be positioned.
5. Reinstall the door trim panel to the door frame.
