Subject: | Difficult to Lower Seatbelt Latch Plate Past Stitch |
Models: | 2006- 2007 Buick Lucerne and Cadillac DTS |
The following diagnosis might be helpful if the vehicle exhibits the symptom(s) described in this PI.
Some customers may comment that it is difficult to lower the Seatbelt Latch Plate past the stitching on the Passenger Front Seatbelt Retractor webbing.
DO NOT replace the Seat Belt Retractor. This stitch is called the "Park Stitch". It is designed to prevent the latch plate (tongue) from sliding down and making contact with other things when an occupant is not present in the seat. This can result in a rattle. The customer can lower the latch plate below the Park Stitch if they choose, but they should be aware that a rattle may result. Difficulty may be encountered during the first few initial attempts. Exercising the seat belt tongue through the stitching several times will ease the difficulty.
Please follow this diagnostic or repair process thoroughly and complete each step. If the condition exhibited is resolved without completing every step, the remaining steps do not need to be performed.
